Holiday time!

If blogspot has actually done something right for once this post should have been published at 4.00pm on Sunday 29th July. If so, it is OFFICIALLY holiday time for me although I will be shitting myself for the flight to Ibiza coming up. As you read this I will be scanning through the booklet on the plane on what to do in case of emergency and tightening my belt.
I have been to Ibiza about 6 times now and we always go to Es Cana, although we have travelled around the island before. We love it there and is so peaceful compared to what the night life is like in Ibiza. I won't be seeing any of that though seen as how i'm too young. And i'm going with my family.

Two weeks of sun shall be brilliant after all the stress of exams and general life!
(so there will be minimal posts)
Adios!

Record Of The Week 17

29th July 2012 Delphic - Good Life
This song sounds so different from their first album and songs that are loved such as 'doubt'. Also loads of people have been saying that they've gone all 'mainstream' now with 'Good Life' being used as an official Olympic song - which will make it mainstream but it doesn't mean that its awful just on that fact.
I do really like this new song though!

Record Of The Week 17

22nd July 2012 Alt J - Tessellate
I think this has been the first week when I have had absolutely no idea what to use for this. I have been all over the place in the past few days though.
I've been a fan of these for a while now so i'm going to use 'Tessellate' by Alt J, I think its brilliant and their album is even better!
Everyone should definitely go out and buy it!

The Vaccines - 'Teenage Icon'

If this song showcases what 'The Vaccines Come Of Age' will sound like then they have definitely beaten the dreaded second album! I heard this song live at Radio 1's Hackney Weekend and although nobody really knew it, it was a three minute belter that launched a thousand beers into the air.

The album will be released on September 3 - I can't wait to hear it!

Maximo Park - 'The Undercurrents'

Maximo Park have released a new song - 'The Undercurrents' is definitely one of my favourites from the album!

I cannot wait to see them at the Ritz in Manchester later this year!

Record Of The Week 16

15th July 2012 Ellie Goulding ft. Tinie Tempah - Hanging On

They've done another one. I've always loved Ellie Goulding's music but her voice sounds exceptional on this song! I'm not sure if Tinie Tempah's rap ruins in slightly as her voice is so quaint then you get his harsh rapping about problems with indigestion, it does spoil the atmosphere slightly.
Overall I think the song shall be a hit as their songs usually are!

Record Of The Week 15

8th July 2012 Newton Faulkner - Clouds

I love Newton Faulkners songs, but i've only heard a few. 'Dream Catch Me' was my absolute favourite song in like 2007 and I still listen to it now, I loved it so much!
This new song is brilliant - I heard it quite a few weeks ago now and I listen to it all the time. The unique sound of Newton’s voice is beautiful. The song has a catchy rhythm and with his easy laid back voice it sounds great, I can imagine it being a big hit for a summer song. I hope this song gets the credit it deserves and does well in the charts!

Dog Is Dead!

I saw Dog Is Dead last May when they supported Viva Brother (who then were just Brother) We all thought they were really good, I remember taking this photo of one of the band members because I loved his hair! It was at Manchester Club Academy I think and we were stood right at the front because it is such a small venue. They played quite a few songs and also the one that they have now released which is 'Glockenspiel Song' The band they supported have now actually split up which I was quite gutted about but I love how these are now getting some recognition! Huw Stevens on R1 has been a big fan of them for a while and he has picked them as his big thing this weekend. 'Glockenspiel Song' is released on July 23. The track is taken from their debut album 'All Our Favourite Stories', which is out this Autumn.

Innuendo Bingo + Devlin

pic.twitter.com/60PxKdv8pic.twitter.com/1OLxEQsB
The Wanted were on Radio 1 today. Listerally two of my most favourite things put together. They were on with Grimmy so Jay and Max ended up playing Innuendo Bingo, Jay did very well but Max spat the water everywhere + he was crying and it came out of his nose. Decent.

ALSO

Yo, It's about 7.30pm and my man Zane Lowe is about to put on the hottest record in the world!
Devlin has brought out a new song with Ed Sheeran, it was Zane Lowe's hottest record last night although Zane wasn't there.. (get well soon - I know you regularly read this blog)
I think the song is very good and shall be a hit!

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds @ M.E.N Arena

Noely was so good. We were stood reasonably near the front which I thought wouldn't happen as we turned up quite late, I thought we'd be right at the back. I've never seen Oasis but I reckoned that the croud would be pretty similar to what i've been told about their gigs. It was quite laddy although there were no real moshing but they're all like 6ft so I could hardly see a thing. He did a mixture of songs off his new album plus some Oasis hits such as Supersonic and Half The World Away. The night wouldn't have been complete without a sing along of Don't Look Back In Anger. Amazing gig and I cannot wait to see him at V Fest!

Florence + The Machine @ M.E.N Arena

Florence was amazinggggg.
I was really lucky actually because my friend is such a massive fan of them she decided to get to the M.E.N about 9 hours before the show actually started so I came in 2 minutes before the doors opened, jumped in line with them and got on the barrier. That is how you do it.
She had two support acts who were Spector and The Horrors. I had only heard one Spector song before that night which was 'Chevy Thunder' but they were so so much better than The Horrors! I couldn't even hear them, well I could hear them but it was just noise. There was no tune to it and the lead singer was just mumbling.
Anyway, Flo came on in a floaty cloak type thing that was absolutely gorgeous and sang most of her new album and about 5 off 'Lungs' I have never heard such an amazing voice. As we were so close to her it did feel really intimate as we didn't really think of the 12,000 people behind us. I didn't want it to end and it was definately one of the best gigs i've been to!

The Wanted @ M.E.N Arena

Just 2 years ago, collectively the names Jay, Tom, Max, Nathan and Siva would have meant nothing to 99.9% of the population, but just 24 months later and the boys have embarked on their first arena tour across the UK and Ireland.
As I have always been a fan of The Wanted, I am biased to how good this gig was and they could do nothing wrong in my eyes.
As I went to one of the first two shows in Manchester they played Last to Know, however after this they changed the set and replaced this with The Weekend. The boys then continued to mix songs from the old album with that of the new.
After another costume change the 5 boys walked through the crowd to the stage (accompanied by a lot of security though) ready for their Coldplay cover medley. A rather surprising choice of cover for some people, but it has to be said it was one of the highlights of the whole nights. Viva la Vida, Every Teardrop is a waterfall, Paradise and then Fix You which the lads brought out their instruments for.
The final four songs got the best reaction of the night including Say it on the Radio which despite not being released as a single is definitely my favourite off the first album.
Ending the night on probably the most apt song of the night Glad You Came - I LOVED IT.

Ed Sheeran @ Manchester Academy

One of the BEST gigs that I have been to, from the supporting acts to the full performance.
There were 2 supports, one which was obvious why he picked (I can't remember his name) it was a Singer/Songwriter who used a loop pedal - Just like Ed and the second was an act that I have never seen before and they really were brilliant! They came on saying they were a hip hop group so we thought we wouldn't really like them but we really didn't know what we were in for at that point. They did a freestyle rap about what the audience had in their pocket - everyone just got stuff out of their pocket/bag and chucked it on stage. I didn't know how to describe it so heres a video of when I saw them off youtube...

After that, we were waiting for Ed Sheeran to come on, and as always he was amazing. He is the only person i've seen that can make a song last about 15 minutes. It is quite sad that I know most of the different versions as well. I do think he makes some of them up as he goes along though! He had cut his fingers so neaded to borrow a guitar pick from the audience which he said 'I haven't used one of these since I was 12' following part of a Green Day song saying it was the first thing that he'd learnt on guitar. He brought out a rapper with him to do Little Lady which I can't listen to - It makes you realise what the song is actually about. But other than that it was an amazing gig!

One Direction @ Manchester Apollo

I do like One Direction a lot, but this really wasn't my sort of thing. I enjoy pop gigs and I thought their album was actually very good. Especially the song 'Memories' which was my favourite part of the gig. I think it may have been where we were sat which was a lot of the problem as we had to dodge girls' posters saying 'Marry Me' or 'I love Louis' and I don't understand why people make posters that just have pictures of the bands face on them. They know what they look like so they don't need pictures of their own faces being flung towards them really..
They sounded great as usual but it was all a bit too much cheese for me and I didn't leave the gig on a high which is what always happens + we went to the 'matinee' show at 1pm meaning it was just going dark when we came out. Thats not right is it.

If you went to this gig/one of their gigs before or just generally want to give me your opinion pop us a comment below :)

New Blur!

It has nearly been 2 years since they released their last track which was ' Fools Day' so Damon and co have finally unveiled two new Blur tracks, 'Under The Westway' and 'The Puritan'!
Out of the two, I think Under The Westway is my favourite but both are brill.

Lend me some sugar, I am your neighbour!

This is a pointless post with a pointless name, its just that i'm listening to Hey Ya by Outcast at this moment in time. I thought I would put down a few things that i've found out/that I love musically over the last few weeks..

Ben Howard - Old Pine
I just want to say, I think this video is dead cute. I am absolutely obsessed with Ben Howard. I've got to the point now where I cannot listen to any other album to go to sleep to. He has brought out my second favourite song off the album which is Old Pine, its one of my favourites because it's the most Mumford and Sons ish one out of the lot which I loveee. I cannot wait to see him at V Fest next month. I'll be getting all emo.

Little Mix - Wings
I heard this song like an hour ago on Greg James' Radio One show and I was quite surprised as to how it sounds, it's really good! I thought they would be moaning about lads of something in their new song but their not. I was pleasently surprised.

Chase & Status - End Credits
This has been flipping annoying me for so so long. A miniture clip of this song is used by Greg James on his 'handy highlights package' at the end of each show (this post is quite relatable to Gregory actually) and it bugged me so much that I knew i'd heard the song before but I had no idea who sang it or what it was called! It was like I was being punished each day, it got right on my wick. BUT I watched the highlights from Hackney the other day and found out that its a Chase & Status song! I was so chuffed.

Record Of The Week 14

1st June 2012 Lucy Rose - Lines
This is first time i've heard of Lucy Rose and I think she is really good. It's quite ballady which I do quite like, I love a good calmingly slow song. It really shows off her wistful vocals to perfection, ‘Lines’ has the potential to be a huge hit for the singer I think.
